We do not sell travel insurance nor receive a commission, this is fully for the benefit of our guests.

What is SuperHog – Know Your Guest?

Know Your Guest is the leading vacation rental guest- screening provider. We use them to independently verify our guests as well as collect a deposit or allow you to buy a damage waiver. Are you child-friendly?

We love kids and families staying at our cabins. Our Brown Bear Cabin has a pack-n-Play and a booster seat. However, we are not child proof. There is no fence preventing kids from going directly into the glacial feed river.  Adults will need to keep an eye on kids around the river.

Do you allow pets?

No pets allowed. Not even your really well behaved dog that will sleep in the truck.

May we bring a pet to your vacation home?

No. Our rentals are pet free.  If we find that you have brought one of our property, there will be a minimum $400 fine charged.

What times are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4 pm on the day of arrival. Check-out is 11 am on the day of departure.

Can I check-in early or check-out late?

Early check-in or late check-out is a possibility during off season and by prior arrangement only

The Location and Fishing

How far are you from Seward, Kenai, Anchorage?

We are about two (2) hours from Anchorage, an hour from Seward and an hour from Kenai.  Summer is road construction season, so these times are dependent on construction crews and accidents on the road.

How far are you from the Russian River?

We are about 4 miles away.

Where is the closest public boat ramp?

Just a ½ mile down the road.

Where can I rent kayaks? Do you have kayaks?

Kenai Kayaks (www.kenaikayaks.com) offers Kayak rentals by the hour.  They can deliver them to your desired location. At this time we do t offer 2 kayaks to our guests for rent.

Is the fishing plentiful at this location?

Absolutely! Cooper Landing is a fishing town. It is located at the mouth of Kenai Lake where salmon are returning to spawn. It is world renowned for salmon and trout fishing. We recommend using a fishing guide.

Do you have special partnerships with any locals?

Yes! Our onsite host, Rob, works as a shuttle driver for Casey with Kenai River Dog  and is a volunteer EMS with Cooper Landing Emergency Services.

Do you supply fishing gear?

No. The fishing gear we have is personal and not for guest use.  Sorry. My husband would be upset to find his favorite fishing set up ruined.  If you use a fishing guide they will provide you with gear.

Where can I rent fishing gear?

You can rent gear from Alaska Troutfitters at their flyshop. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game also will loan you a rod and reel.

Where could we buy fishing equipment?

Fly fishing gear is available in Anchorage, Cooper Landing, and many other towns.  There is a Bass Pro and a Cabela’s in Anchorage. (worth seeing even if you don’t buy anything).  You need different gear for trout than for salmon.  Trout need maybe a 4# rod, salmon need an 8# rod.  Expect to spend about $150 on a salmon setup.

Will we need waders?

Definitely need waders, strongly recommend chest waders (not just hip boots).  Hip boots are $60 at Walmart, chest waders can be rented at Troutfitters, our next door neighbors in Cooper Landing.

Where would we get a fishing license and what kind?

You will need a non-resident license.  Get your fishing license online at the Alaska Dept of Fish and Game website and print it out before you start your trip.  Otherwise any sporting goods store like Troutfitters can sell you one.  If you’re fishing in the saltwater at all get the King Salmon stamp, otherwise skip that.

Can you fish off the dock there?

You can and you should!  Luke and Rob have hooked trout from the dock on a spoon and friends have landed them on dry flies.  Note that to be legal you are limited to one hook (no treble hooks) and no bait.  You will likely see salmon jumping and rolling if you sit on the dock more than a minute or two.  You’re allowed to try to catch them… but We’ve never managed to do it from the dock. Fishing is closed on the upper Kenai river from May 1 – June 10.  See Regulations for any changes

What kind of fish are running?

In late May and until the middle of August there will be Sockeye (or Red) salmon and possibly Pink salmon depending on the year.   You may see Chinook (Kings) but they’re off limits on the Upper Kenai River.  Coho (Silver) salmon show up in August about the time the Reds are ending. Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden are there all year, check the AF&G fishing regulations to know when the season is closed.

What kind of bait do you use?

No bait is permitted at any river We’ve fished near Cooper Landing.  The fishing regulations are lengthy, complex, and firmly enforced.  As a tourist you will likely just get a warning for an innocent mistake so don’t worry too much about it, but do try to comply with the regs or they’ll ticket you and take your gear.  Again, we strongly recommend using a guide. They’ll have all the gear you need, you can try different locations and styles of fishing, and your success and satisfaction will be much higher.  My husband spent the entire first year we lived  in AK fishing without success because it’s so different from the lower 48.

WiFi, pets, baby gear, smoking, and groceries.

“Do you have Wi-Fi at the house?”

“Yes, all homes have high-speed wireless internet. But this is Alaska and it might not be as fast as what you have at home.”

“Do you have any baby gear?”

“Only the Brown Bear cabin has a pack-n-play and booster seat.”

“How far is the grocery store?”

“There are no grocery stores in Cooper Landing. Wildman’s has a washer and dryer, liquor, and other convenient items. Grizzly Ridge is right down the road and offers the standard items found in a gas station. Due to the remote nature of these stores, the selection can be limited and prices high. If you need more than what these places offer, Safeway-Carrs is in Seward, Fred Meyer is in Soldotna, Walmart is in Kenai. If you know you want to cook at your rental, use the curbside pick-up service for these stores and order your groceries before you arrive in Alaska.”

“Do you allow smoking or vaping in your vacation homes?”

“There is NO SMOKING in our homes. This includes ALL types of smoking and vaping. If we find that you have smoked in one of our homes, there will be a minimum $400 fine charged. If you smoke outside, please dispose of your waste properly in the trash.”

“May we bring a pet to your vacation home?”

“No. Our rentals are pet-free. If we find that you have brought one of our homes, there will be a minimum $400 fine charged.”
