The Unpredictable Nature of Travel

“The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

The allure of travel lies in its unpredictability, but this unpredictability can sometimes take unexpected turns. From flight delays and cancellations to medical emergencies in foreign lands, the unknown can challenge even the most seasoned travelers. Recently, part of a 737-MAX Alaska Airlines flight’s fuselage detached on January 5, 2024. Our family was traveling home on this day and FAAs grounding of all 737 MAX 9 led to a shift in our travel plans, accompanied by unexpected hotel expenses. This unforeseen event reinforced the importance of flexibility in travel and served as a reminder to the value of Travel Insurance.

“Did you know that most people arrive in Alaska on United or Alaska Air flights? The recent grounding of 737-MAX9s has disrupted air travel to Alaska, impacting 20% of Alaska Airlines’ fleet.”

Many travelers hesitate to purchase travel insurance, assuming it’s an added complication. However, at Cooper Landing Lodge, it is a simple step offered after you complete your reservation. First, you have the option to to purchase travel insurance through a third party provider. Next, you have the option to purchase two different types of travel insurance:

  1. Traditional travel insurance.  This program responds to risks incidental to planned travel and includes reimbursement for the cost of the booking if a covered event occurs that forces the guest to cancel the trip; additionally, proportional reimbursement can be made for covered events causing the trip to be delayed or interrupted. Covered events include things like
    • being hospitalized,
    • death of a close family member,
    • unforeseen hurricane or an mandatory evacuation.
This travel insurance offer is available to residents of all US states and all Canadian provinces except Quebec. .
  2. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Protection.  This is what it sounds like – the CFAR benefit pays out if the guest cancels the trip for any reason at all, even one that isn’t listed as a covered reason in the policy.  The catch is that it only pays out 60% of the costs if you don’t have a covered reason.  At the moment, CFAR can be purchased only by residents of the United States and Canada. CFAR is not available to residents of New York, Washington, and Quebec.

The convenience of booking with confidence ensures that you can focus on the excitement of your upcoming adventure.
